Northern Utah's geography is very different from what you'd expect from the southern. Southern Utah is full of red rock and plateau landscapes, while northern Utah boasts mountains, lakes, and major cities. There are plenty of places to camp in northern Utah year-round as well!

There are so many options for camping and glamping in Northern Utah. To start, Bountiful Peak Campground in Farmington is a popular spot for tent camping, though the 22-site campground fills up fast on weekends and during the summer. Box Elder Campground in Mantua offers free day-use camping sites complete with picnic tables, fire pits, and gorgeous views.

All of Northern Utah's state parks offer free campgrounds, RV hookups, and trailer sites. If glamping is more your style, you can easily find an inexpensive yurt or cabin to stay in. Northern Utah's state parks include Antelope Island State Park, Golden Spike National Historic Park, and Bear Lake State Park.

Things to Do in Northern Utah

If you love the great outdoors, you're in luck. There are so many different fun things you can do in Northern Utah. Heber Valley is a great destination for those who love exploring alpine woods and engaging in activities like hiking, biking, birdwatching, and other mountain sports.

If you need to hike when you're camping, there are many great destinations and trails to consider. Shadow Lake via Crystal Lake Trailhead is an easy out and back trail located in Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. This trail is less than four miles and is best trekked between July and September. The views of the lake are incredible! Another great trail to try is the moderate Lower Bell Canyon Reservoir via Larry's Trail. This heavily trafficked 2.4-mile trail is nestled near Sandy and features a gorgeous lake and beautiful alpine sites.

Places to Visit in Northern Utah

West Desert Ramble and the Piny Express are the top destinations for vacationers and tourists in northwestern Utah. There aren't many wild frontiers left in the world, so this destination is definitely worth seeing at least once. Visitors can walk or horseback ride through the Pony Express National Historic Trail.

Another must-see is the Timpanogos Cave and trailing hiking excursions available via a number of different tour companies. Throughout your exploration of the cave, you'll learn about the geological history of the giant ancient cave.

For those who love boating and fishing, Lost Creek State Park is only about ten miles northeast of the city of Croydon. Once you drive through the mountains, you'll be able to enjoy the 365-acre reservoir, as well as paddleboats, hiking trails, and Taggart's Grill for some grub.
