Welcome to Tentrr Camping in The Alleghenies

The Allegheny Forest is Pennsylvania’s only National Forest. In the foothills of he Appalachian mountains the forest is approximately 517,000 acres of beautiful wilderness--some of which is developed into campgrounds, parks, and recreation areas, and some of which is pristine and only seen by the intrepid hikers to delve deep into the trees. Campers in this “land of many uses”, as it is known, will find tall trees, abundant wildlife, fun explorations, and camping serenity.

With a forest so big, there are naturally many places to camp. Eighteen maintained campgrounds dot the woods, some on lakes and some deep in the trees. There are additional campgrounds just for RVs, and, of course, you’re free to go backpacking deep into the Alleghenies to see what you can discover inside.

If you want to get out on the lake, there are many to choose from, but the most accessible to boats and from, the road is the Allegheny Reservoir. With five different boat access campgrounds, and six other campgrounds, you can easily get your motorized boat out into the middle of the lake, or push in a canoe or kayak from the shore. The reservoir is even clear enough that it’s a notable spot in Pennsylvania for scuba diving!

There are rivers, streams and creeks, all of which you can play in, and campers can go inner tubing down the biggest of them. But be sure to know where you are, because the forest is also known for its gorgeous waterfalls.

If your version of camping fun is to see wildlife, the Alleghenies have you covered. Over 300 species of mammals are found in the forest, including racoons, squirrels, snowshoe hares, foxes, beavers, white-tailed deer, black bears and wild turkeys. And in the sky you’ll see eagles, ospreys and owls.

Come camp in the Alleghenies! It’s a trip that is as rugged or as comfortable as you wish to make it in a land that is at once primitive and preserved.
