Welcome to Tentrr Camping in Chautauqua-Allegheny

The southwest corner of New York is nothing if not picturesque, with emerald lakes, ample vineyards, and lovely mountains. For a relatively small region there is much to recommend about this serene and quiet camping spot.

When wanting to see gorgeous vibrant colors of fall foliage, there are few places in New York better than Allegany. When camping at Allegany there are more than 5 miles of bike paths for both speedy cyclists out for a time trial as well as casual riders enjoying the trees and birds. With ball fields and tennis courts, picnic areas and two sandy beaches for swimming, crossing the wooden covered bridges is like crossing into another world, a world of wonder and relaxation.

Campers at Allegany can rent non-motorized boats for jaunts on the water. 65,000 acres of primitive forest surround you, enveloping you into a cozy wonderland that is full of wildlife, cookouts and fishing during the summer, and snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing in the winter.

Turning your sights on Lake Erie, you’ll find not only a tranquil waterside campsite, but on the high cliffs surrounding the lake you have a gorgeous view of Lake Erie State Park. This area is particularly known for its rare migratory birds by the lake’s edge, making this a birder or a photographer’s dream when the season is right.

But don’t think that the Chautauqua-Allegheny region is nothing but camping in pristine forest and waterways. Once you get away from the trophy fishing on Lake Erie, you can get into the heart of Amish Country, the maple farms, and the Lake Erie wine country.

The Chautauqua Institution brings in 150,000 visitors a year to see its art exhibits, and television fans will delight at Lucy-Desi Museum which is also home to the National Comedy Center, honoring hometown hero, Lucille Ball.

Explore rocks from the Paleozoic ocean floor at the Panama Rocks Scenic Park, or visit one of the most iconic monuments to Lake Erie: the Dunkirk Lighthouse which was established in 1826.
