Welcome to Tentrr Camping in Aroostook County, Maine

With roaring campfires, fresh pine in the air, salmon and trout fishing, and staying up late to watch the stars in some of the darkest night skies you can find in the Northeast, camping in Maine’s Aroostook County will thrill and entice even the most city-loving person to become outdoorsy.

One of the biggest draws when camping in Aroostook County are the lakes, and there are five primary lakes that we’re talking about: Island Fall’s four lakes (Upper Mattawamkeag Lake, Mattawamkeag Lake, Caribou Lake, and Pleasant Lake) and Long Lake in Van Buren. The fishing here is great, with the primary sport species being brook trout, arctic charr, lake trout, landlocked salmon, bass (smallmouth and largemouth), and muskellunge. The muskies are especially known for their size and the fight they put up, with some of the largest pulled out of these lakes at two to five feet and weighing in at 66 pounds. And, if it’s winter, don’t let that deter you. Ice fishing here is just as exciting as fishing on the open water.

Camping in Aroostook State Park, Maine’s first recognized state park, is a camper’s dream. With hikes that take up you up Quaggy Jo Mountain (taken from the Indian name “Qua Qua Jo” which means “twin peaked”, or relaxing on Echo Lake, this small (800 acre) state park is a delight for campers, hikers, anglers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders alike.

For campers who want to get a look at the wonderful diversity of the fauna that Aroostook County has to offer, look no further than the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge, where you can spot moose, while-tailed deer, snowshoe hare, beaver, lynx, river otter, mink and coyotes. Birders will enjoy the chickadees, grouse, woodpeckers, warblers, thrushes, as well as bald eagles.

If you’re looking to get away from it all, plunge into the wilderness and enjoy what nature has to offer, come camping at Aroostook County.
