Hawks Nest State Park is the perfect destination for birding, camping, hiking or just plain relaxing and enjoying the unsurpassed natural beauty. Enjoy a thrilling Jet Boat ride for the best views of the New River Gorge Bridge and Hawks Nest Lake Dam. You can also bring your motor boat, kayak or canoe to enjoy the water. Two boat launch ramps are located at the marina near the lower section of the aerial tramway. Don’t forget, a proper license is required before you hit the water! See what you can catch at Hawks Nest Lake with a day spent on the water. The lake is an impoundment of the New River, a premier small mouth bass fishery. The lake also harbors a healthy population of catfish, muskies and pan fish. Additionally, Mill Creek located along the south-eastern border of the park is stocked with trout in both the spring and fall. Explore the state park through the miles of hiking trails or ride the aerial tramway from the top of the scenic New River Gorge canyon at Hawks Nest Lodge to the marina at the bottom! Make sure to check the hours of operations on the park's website. This campsite is equipped with a pre-set sturdy canvas tent on it's own wooden deck platform. The tent is furnished with a queen-size memory foam mattress, side tables, and a propane tent heater. A picnic table, fire pit with a grill, a solar shower, and portable camp loo are also provided, and campers are able to use the park's restroom facilities as well. There is an additional pop up tent provided for extra guests, but you will have to bring your own air mattresses/sleeping pads for this tent. Be sure to bring your own food, firewood and bedding. There is no electricity available at your Tentrr site. Anything you pack in, you must pack out. All trash MUST be deposited in a designated receptacle at the end of your stay. If you do not follow this rule, you will be charged a cleaning fee. Please beware that there are rattlesnakes, bears and other forest dwellers in this area. They are important members of the natural community, so we ask that you give them distance and respect for the safety of all. It is suggested you bring a wagon of some sort to haul your belongings to and from the site. Have a wonderful stay!
