There is much more to New York than city life. The state has an abundance of scenic towns and villages to explore as well as plenty of relaxing countrysides.
Camping and glamping is a wonderful way to enjoy the scenic parts of the state, especially with more and more private residences offering extremely private camp spots to guests looking to escape into nature for a while. Here are four glamping sites we recommend in New York, whether you’re looking for a brief reprieve from the city or are on a cross-country family camping trip.
This adorable glamping site sits just a stone’s throw from the Delaware River and only 10 minutes to the town of Barryville where you’ll find several quaint coffee shops and dining options. You can go kayaking on the river, explore hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail which is only 30 minutes away, or just relax on the glamping tent deck and enjoy the sounds of the river.
The site is large enough to accommodate up to 14 campers, although only four can fit in the platform canvas tent. The site also includes an extra dome tent, picnic table, camp chairs, and fire pit. The host also provides a canoe and shuttle service back to your site for an extra fee.
Just north of Poughkeepsie in a private wooded area, the Vista Valley Pond sleeps up to ten campers adjacent to a lovely swimming hole. Guests have access to a floating dock that's also shared by fellow campers, and can rent kayaks to explore the pond. Several hiking trails meander through the property or you can head to the nearby Tivoli Bays Wildlife Area for hiking and canoeing within excellent view of the Catskill Mountains.
This mountaintop glamping site overlooks a scenic valley near Ellenville, New York. There are few trees impeding the view so stargazing from this perch atop the valley is especially amazing. The site can accommodate four campers and pets are welcome. There’s also a picnic table with an umbrella to offer you a bit of protection in poor weather.
Located in a forested alcove on a private farm near Ithaca, New York, Gorges Hideaway has excellent access to hiking trails and is just a few minutes away from Buttermilk Falls State Park and Robert H. Treman State Park. This is an amazing basecamp for exploring all that the Finger Lakes Region has to offer, plus it’s only 10 minutes from downtown Ithaca.
The site itself can sleep up to six campers and pets are welcome. The canvas tent includes a queen mattress and extra campers are accommodated in a dome tent. Other amenities include firewood, a camp stove, tables and chairs, and a few kitchen odds and ends. Guests are invited to explore the farm as long as they are respectful of the land.
