Crafting can be a great way to spend an afternoon at the campsite. Do you remember being a kid with paint stained fingers from working on a personal art project? Getting back to that creative feeling is easier than you think! Here is a list of DIY crafts you and your family could try!

1. Mason Jar Luminaries


What you’ll need:

  • Mason jars and lids
  • Glass gems
  • Hot glue gun
  • Tea light candles or battery operated tea light candles

How to:

  • Clean your mason jars and remove the lids.
  • Gather your gems, any color you would like and use the hot glue gun to glue them on until the whole outside of the jar is covered.
  • Place the tealight candle or battery operated candle into the mason jar and light it.
  • Put the lid on and enjoy your creation.
  • Make as many as you would like!

2. DIY Cornhole Game

What you’ll need:

  • Plywood
  • Four 3” hinges
  • Wood stain and finish
  • Paint in the colors of your choice
  • Jigsaw
  • Spade Drill
  • Sand paper

How to:

  • Cut the sheet of plywood to be 24 inch wide by 48 inches long.
  • For the backboard, cut more plywood so it is 12” long and 24” wide and this piece will be attached to prop the cornhole boards up.
  • Draw a 6-inch circle in the middle of the board, nine inches from the top and use a spade drill bit to make a hole in the middle of the circle. Once the hole is there, use a jigsaw to cut out the rest of the hole.
  • Sand the boards, dust them off really well, and then begin staining or painting the wood in whatever design or colors you would like.
  • Finally, attach the legs using the hinges and purchase 8 bean bags to play

3. Stick Wind Chimes

What you’ll need:

  • Sticks
  • Paint
  • Screw eyes
  • Sand paper
  • Yarn

How to:

  • Gather sticks
  • Sand sticks until smooth
  • Paint sticks the color of your choice
  • Attach screw eye to the top of the stick
  • Align wind chimes and attach to a larger stick

4. DIY Fire Starters


What you’ll need:

  • Lint
  • Newspaper
  • Toilet paper rolls
  • String
  • Sage (Helps keep bugs away)

How to:

  • Stuff each toilet paper roll with lint until it is full.
  • Put the sage on top of the lint in the roll.
  • Roll a sheet of newspaper around the toilet paper roll and tie off with string.
